Denmark-based H.P. Entreprenørmaskiner A/S has been a distributor of mass excavation and demolition equipment for more than 25 years. The company offers its customers a comprehensive selection of high-quality machinery, ranging from excavators and hoisting equipment to dumper trucks, from several different suppliers including Hitachi Construction Machinery. Its sales region extends beyond mainland Denmark to include Greenland and the Faroe Islands, and the machinery is primarily used in the construction industry. In addition to selling new machinery, H.P. Entreprenørmaskiner is also involved in trading second-hand construction equipment.
In March 2012, H.P. Entreprenørmaskiner enlisted our help in order to ensure on-time deliveries of machinery to its customers – a wise choice, since the transportation of heavy and bulky products is one of our specialities. Hence, we were not at all daunted by H.P. Entreprenørmaskiner's challenge of transporting machinery, varying in weight from 10 to 100 tonnes, from the Hitachi Construction Machinery factory to various locations in Denmark.
H.P. Entreprenørmaskiner worked closely with our Heavy Logistics department to identify the optimum solution. Instead of taking the conventional road haulage approach and transporting the goods to Denmark via The Netherlands and Germany, our specialists suggested a short-sea option. That resulted in a solution which was both ‘comfortable' and ‘green', in line with our corporate strategy. The modal shift from road transport to short-sea avoided 445,000 tonne-kilometres between March and December 2012, which reduced the carbon footprint by 82%. It also proved to be an efficient solution, since it bypassed the German motorways with their increasingly expensive tolls for trucks. Furthermore, with a transit time of just one day, this approach minimised the machinery's delivery time. Yet this smart logistics solution offers even more benefits: the equipment can now be transported in one piece, whereas it previously had to be shipped in a number of parts in order to comply with regulations governing road freight. Assembly and testing no longer needs to be done on site, but can instead be done beforehand in the factory. Hence, the machinery is delivered ready for use, thus saving both time and money.
Do you also have high and heavy cargo which need to be transported or stored? If so, please do not hesitate to contact our Heavy Logistics department for a tailor-made solution.
